Stadion

The stadium takes its name from the nearby bridge over the River Trent in Nottingham . It is close to the football stadiums Meadow Lane from Notts County and City Ground of Nottingham Forest . Trent Bridge has been used for cricket games since the 1830s. The first surviving records of a game date back to 1838, from a match that took place behind the Trent Bridge Inn . The stadium itself was inaugurated in 1841 by William Clarke , captain of the All England cricket team and husband of the inn owner. The first test match was held here against Australia in 1899. The two ends of the pitch are called Pavilion End and Radcliffe Road End . The audience capacity is approx. 17,000.

Soccer

Trent Bridge was also used for soccer games for a long time. Notts County played its major games here since the 1860s and moved in permanently in 1883 when Nottingham Forest moved. During the cricket season, however, the footballers had to give way regularly to the cricket team, so that they finally left the stadium in 1910. On February 20, 1897 England beat Ireland 6-0 here.
