The Edgbaston Cricket Ground (usually simply Edgbaston ; officially The County Ground ) is one of the six traditional test match stadiums in England and home of the Warwickshire County Cricket Club .
Stadion
The stadium, with a seating capacity of 21,000, is located in the Edgbaston district of Birmingham , along Edgbaston Road . The first game against a selection of the MCC took place on the site originally leased by Lord Calthorpe in 1886 . The first test match was played here in 1902 against Australia . Today the stadium is a regular venue for games by the English national team and International Cricket Council tournaments, such as the Cricket World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy . The two ends of the pitch are called Pavilion End and City End .
Since 2009 the stadium has undergone a major modernization at a cost of £ 30 million. The work was finished by summer 2011 and the stadium boat has more space for around 3,000 spectators.
