The Long Beach Blues Festival was founded in 1980 and, along with the San Francisco Blues Festival and the Chicago Blues Festival, is one of the most important in the USA . It takes place on the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day weekend and has been held at the Rainbow Lagoon in downtown Long Beach for the 29th edition . The first 28 editions took place on the campus of California State University, Long Beach . The festival is hosted by KKJZ, a publicly funded radio station on the grounds of California State University that broadcasts jazz and blues. The purpose of the festival is also to raise funds for the broadcaster.
