Life
Clarence Carter, blind from early childhood, taught himself to play the guitar, sang in a gospel choir and completed a music education. Together with Calvin Thomas he founded the duo Clarence & Calvin, but was not very successful. After a car accident by Calvin Thomas, Carter started a solo career and in 1968 had two million sellers with Slip Away and Too Weak to Fight . In 1970 he was able to land another hit with patches . At the Grammy Awards in 1971 was patches named best R & B song.
