Billy Branch , actually William Earl Branch, (born October 3, 1951 in Chicago ) is a harmonica player of the Chicago Blues .

Branch grew up in San Francisco and returned to his hometown in 1969, where he studied political science at the University of Illinois . There he joined a band from Lefty Dizz .
His professional career began when he won a harmonica competition in 1975, which led to Willie Dixon accepting him into his All Star Band . He toured Europe with his band Sons of Blues and performed at the Berlin Jazz Festivalon. The band name was no coincidence, among others Lurrie Bell, the son of Carey Bell and Freddie Dixon, the son of Willie Dixon played in the band. In 1984 Branch was able to record his first own album " Where's My Money ". As a studio musician, he has worked on more than fifty albums; He played with Muddy Waters , Big Walter Horton , Son Seals , Lonnie Brooks , Koko Taylor , Johnny Winter and Albert King, among others . The album Harp Attack! , which he recorded with his harmonica colleagues Carey Bell , Junior Wells and James Cotton , received the WC Handy Award .
