Junior Wells
Junior Wells (born December 9, 1934 in Memphis , Tennessee , USA , † January 15, 1998 in Chicago , Illinois ), actually Amos Blackmore , was an American blues musician. His instrument was the harmonica. He played with Muddy Waters , Buddy Guy , Magic Sam , Lonnie Brooks and the Rolling Stones .
biography
Born in Memphis, Wells grew up in Arkansas . At the age of seven he already played the harmonica, which was taught to him by his cousin Junior Parker and Sonny Boy Williamson. In 1948 he went to Chicago. At the age of 18 he played in the band of Muddy Waters, with whom he also made his first recordings. In the 1960s he mainly worked with Buddy Guy.
Junior Wells ' best known songs are Messin' With the Kid and Little By Little , his best known album is Hoodoo Man Blues from 1965.
He made an appearance in the film Blues Brothers 2000 , which was released shortly after his death. Junior Wells died of a heart attack in 1998 while undergoing treatment for cancer. He was buried in Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago. At his funeral, Billy Branch , Sugar Blue, and Harmonica Hinds played a funeral march.
