history

Chicago and the blues have a close history in common, particularly since the 1940s and the great migration from the south, particularly from the Mississippi Delta area. Many people moved north to find better living conditions in Chicago. There were also many musicians among them. Many local labels were created in Chicago that enabled the musicians to record, such as B. Bluebird Records . The 1950s saw an increase in the opportunities for blues musicians to perform in Chicago. B. through clubs like Silvio's, Gatewood's Tavern and the Flame Club. In 1968 the blues club Kingston Mines was opened, which still offers the opportunity to perform, 365 days a year on two stages simultaneously. In addition to the club scene and the record labels, a performance opportunity for musicians was created on Maxwell Street . This is how the Chicago blues came into being over time.

The first Chicago Blues Festival took place in 1984. The focus is on Chicago blues, but soul and blues rock acts also perform.
