John Jackson (blues musician)

John Jackson (born February 24, 1924 in Woodville , Virginia , † January 20, 2002 in Fairfax , Virginia) was an American musician of the Piedmont Blues .

biography

John H. Jackson grew up in a musical family; he learned to play the guitar early. He performed at dance evenings and house parties in the area. In 1946, however, he stopped doing it after a fight broke out during one of his appearances. He moved to Fairfax , where he worked as a driver and gravedigger , among other things .

In 1964 he was rediscovered by chance. During the blues revival, he made his first recordings with Arhoolie Records . He has been to Europe several times, played at festivals and also recorded for Rounder and Alligator Records .

Jackson died of liver cancer in Fairfax in 2002; he was 77 years old.
