Arhoolie Records
Arhoolie Records is an American record label that was founded in 1960 by ( German-born ) Chris Strachwitz and is still in operation today.
Although the Strachwitz record company was originally founded to record hitherto unknown “down-home” blues musicians such as Lightnin 'Hopkins , Mississippi Fred McDowell , Juke Boy Bonner and Mance Lipscomb and to make their music accessible to larger “white” groups of buyers make, he soon expanded the program to include re-releases of pre-war blues recordings (sub-label "Blues Classics") and gospel music , old-time country & western , (white) Cajun and (black) Zydeco recordings from Louisiana and Mexican-American "roots" music ( Tejano / Conjunto music ).
