The label was founded in 1971 by Bruce Iglauer to record and produce a record, namely Hound Dog Taylor & The House Rockers , which Bob Koester did not want to record from his employer Delmark Records . He got out and started his own company.
Since its inception, Alligator Records has released over 250 blues and blues rock albums.
