Bruce Iglauer (born July 10, 1947 in Ann Arbor , Michigan ) is the founder and owner of the independent blues label Alligator Records .

Life

Iglauer was born in Ann Arbor and raised in Grand Rapids . He became familiar with the blues while studying at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin . At university he hosted a blues radio show and promoted concerts by Howlin 'Wolf and Luther Allison . Here he met Bob Koester and joined Delmark Records in Chicago . After not signing a contract with Hound Dog Taylor of Delmark, he formed Alligator Records in 1971 . To date, the label has recorded around 250 albums with various blues and blues rock artists.

Bruce Iglauer was named "Chicagoan of the Year" in 2002. He also founded the National Association of Independent Record Distributors (NAIRD), later renamed the Association For Independent Music (AFIM). He sits on the boards of the Blues Foundation , the Blues Community Foundation, and the American Association For Independent Music (AFIM). Iglauer is married to Jo Kolanda, she brought a daughter into the marriage, the couple also have a daughter.
