Chicago Beau

Chicago Beau (* 13. February 1949 in Chicago , Illinois as Lincoln T. Beauchamp, Jr. ) is an American blues musician ( blues harp , vocals ), music producer and author.

Live and act

Chicago Beau was a tap dancer from the age of ten , trained by Jimmy Payne, and took part in many cabaret shows until he was 15. Then Billy Boy Arnold gave him harmonica lessons; He got his stage name from Muddy Waters . Since the age of 17 he has performed in small clubs and camps and as a street musician , not only in his hometown, but also in New England states and Canada , then to work in Amsterdam and Paris . In Paris he met Archie Shepp , who took him with another harmonica player, his cousin Julio Finn , to record his creative jazz classic Blasé , the album Pitchin Can and another album with Philly Joe Jones and Anthony Braxton . Shortly thereafter, the Art Ensemble of Chicago drew him on for performances and recordings ( Certain Blacks , 1970).

In the next decades Chicago Beau took part with his own bands, but also with his teacher Billy Boy Arnold and with Cal Massey , Pinetop Perkins , Fontella Bass , James Carter , Frank Zappa , Sunnyland Slim , Famoudou Don Moye and with the South African Amakhono We Sinto Choir on. In the 1990s he toured Europe with his own group, but also with the Art Ensemble of Chicago . In 2013 he performed with his band in Burghausen (TV recording).

As a music producer in Chicago he recorded musicians such as Junior Wells , Valerie Wellington, Billy Branch , Willie Kent , Deitra Farr and Tommy McCracken. In 1988 he founded the publishing house Literati Internazionale , which was dedicated to writing about blues and jazz as well as multiculturalism and published magazines in addition to books. He wrote three books.

Chicago Beau received the Clio Award for his music used in the Chicago Bulls' cable television campaign in the early 1990s .
