Pereskiopsis rotundifolia is a species of plant in the genus Pereskiopsis from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Spanish common names are "Chapistle" and "Tzompahuiztle".

Pereskiopsis rotundifolia grows shrubby to tree-shaped , is richly branched and reaches heights of 2 to 4 meters. Sometimes a lignified trunk is formed. The slender, woody, bald, brownish shoots reach a diameter of 0.5 to 1.2 centimeters. The almost circular, fleshy leaf blade of the leaves has an attached tip, is 3 to 8 inches long and 1.7 to 4.7 inches wide. The gray areoles are not covered with hairs , but abundantly or sparsely with reddish, 3 to 5 millimeter long glochids . The mostly single protruding, white to grayish thorn is 3 to 7 centimeters long. Occasionally it is absent, sometimes up to three thorns are formed.
The yellowish red flowers appearing on the side of the shoots reach a diameter of 2.5 to 3.4 centimeters and are 2.5 to 4 centimeters long. Your pericarpel is covered with a few glochids, but no hair. The obovate, red fruits are 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters long and 1 to 1.4 centimeters in diameter.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Pereskiopsis rotundifolia is distributed in the Mexican states of Morelos , México , Guerrero , Oaxaca and Puebla at altitudes of 1300 to 1900 meters.
It was first described as Pereskia rotundifolia in 1828 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle . Nathaniel Lord Britton and Joseph Nelson Rose put the species in 1907 in the genus Pereskiopsis, which they newly established . A synonym is Opuntia rotundifolia K.Schum.
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered. The development of the populations is considered stable.
