Opuntioideae is a subfamily of the cactus family (Cactaceae).

description

The species of the subfamily Opuntioideae can grow prostrate, lawn-shaped, clusters to tree-shaped. Many have the characteristic of producing flattened, disc-shaped shoots, on the edge and surface of which there are thorns and glochids more or less evenly distributed .

The differences to the systematics established by Wolfgang Stuppy in 2002 are the non-recognition of Nopalea as an independent genus and the division of the genus Grusonia into four sub-genera.
