description

The species of the tribe Tephrocacteae grow in groups up to cushions or as small shrubs or individually. They are rarely geophytic . The cylindrical shoots branch in the middle or towards the tip. The areoles on it are somewhat sunk into the shoots. The somewhat angular to irregular seeds have a sponge-like modified or hair-like funiculus covering .

Systematics and distribution

The tribe Tephrocacteae is common in the Andes in southern South America . It was set up in 1999 by Alexander Borissovitch Doweld .
