description

The species of the tribe Austrocylindropuntieae grow upright and shrubby or form cushions. The cylindrical shoots branch at their base or in the middle. The leaf rudiments on it are persistent, the thorns have no paper-like sheath. The spherical to pear-shaped seeds have a weak funiculus rib .

Systematics and distribution

The tribe Austrocylindropuntieae is widespread in central and southern South America . It was set up in 2002 by Robert S. Wallace and Steven L. Dickie .
