The species of the Tribus Opuntieae grow shrubby, tree-shaped or form groups or cushions. Sometimes they have distinct stems and divergent side branches. The shoots usually branch near their tips. They are usually clearly flattened ( platycladia ) or sometimes also round.

Systematics and distribution

The distribution area of ​​the Tribus Opuntieae covers the north of the entire distribution area of ​​the subgenus and extends in the south to central Argentina. The tribe was set up in 1828 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle .
