Mighty Joe Young
Mighty Joe Young (born September 23, 1927 in Shreveport , Louisiana , † March 25, 1999 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter.
Young was born in Louisiana and grew up in Milwaukee . From the mid-1950s he played in Chicago a. a. on Joe Little & his Heart Breakers, Billy Boy Arnold , Jimmy Rogers and Otis Rush .
In 1961 his first solo recording, Why Baby, was released . Other singles during the 1960s included a. I Want a Love , Voo Doo Dust , Sweet Kisses , Henpecked and Guitar Star . Young's debut solo album, Blues With a Touch of Soul , was released in 1971.
In the late 1980s, Young had surgery on a pinched nerve in the cervical area. Complications affected his ability to play the guitar. Nevertheless, he released the album Mighty Man in 1997 , which he had worked on over the years, also as part of his therapy.
Mighty Joe Young died in Chicago in 1999.
