Lurrie Bell

Lurrie Bell (born December 13, 1958 in Chicago , Illinois) is an American blues guitarist and blues singer. He is the son of the legendary harmonica virtuoso Carey Bell .

Life

He started playing guitar at the age of six and received valuable advice from blues greats like Eddy Clearwater, Big Walter Horton and Eddie Taylor who went in and out of his father's house.

In the mid-1970s he became a guitarist in Koko Taylor's band, where he stayed for four years. He made his album debut on his father's Heartaches and Pain. Around the same time he formed The Sons of Blues with Billy Branch on harmonica. He was considered an upcoming star in the late 1980s and early 1990s, but personal problems prevented him from breaking through.

In 1995 he made his comeback with Mercurial Son. Since then he has performed regularly in Chicago's blues clubs. In 2007 he received the Living Blues Award for best guitarist, in 2008 for best blues artist and best guitarist. In 2009 he became part of the Chicago Blues-A Living History project with Billy Branch, Billy Boy Arnold and John Primer .

For his album The Devil Ain't Got No Music (Aria BG / Socadisc) he received the Prix ​​Blues 2012 from the French Académie du Jazz .

In 2015 he was named "Best Traditional Male Blues Artist" by the Blues Foundation in Memphis.
