Laten Johnny Adams (born January 5, 1932 in New Orleans , † September 14, 1998 in Baton Rouge ) was an American blues singer. Because of the amazing range of his voice, he was nicknamed "Tan Canary" ("brown canary"). His style was influenced by the gospel music with which he began his career, but he switched to secular music in 1959 and had a local hit with Dorothy La Bostrie's composition I Won't Cry . His greatest successes followed in 1968 and 1969 with Release Me and, above all, Reconsider Me .

In the 1980s and 1990s, Johnny Adams recorded several award-winning albums on Rounder Records , most of which were released in Germany on Zensor . In 1997 he was a guest star for the album R + B = Ruth Brown . After suffering from cancer for a long time, he died in Baton Rouge in 1998.
