Johnnie Taylor
Johnnie Taylor Harrison (* 5. May 1938 in Crawfordsville , Arkansas , † 31 May 2000 in Dallas , Texas ) was an American Soul - and R & B - singer .
biography
Taylor had a total of 40 hits in the American R&B charts between 1963 and 1990, making him one of the most successful artists of his genre in the 1960s and 1970s. He achieved his greatest successes with Who's Making Love (1968), Jody's Got Your Girl and Gone (1972), I Believe in You (You Believe in Me) (1973) and the million-seller Disco Lady (1976), the first single that was awarded platinum in the United States. The four songs mentioned reached number one on the R&B charts and were also high in the US pop charts , so Disco Lady also reached number one here.
Taylor was one of the most important and successful artists on the Stax label , with whom he was under contract between 1966 and 1975. He was also considered an important interpreter of Southern Soul .
Taylor died in 2000 of complications from a heart attack. His son Floyd Taylor , who followed him into show business as a blues singer, died in 2014 at the age of 60.
