Phillip Walker (born February 11, 1937 in Welsh , Louisiana , † July 22, 2010 in Palm Springs , California ) was an American blues singer and guitarist of the West Coast blues .

Life

Walker learned to play the guitar as a teenager; his early role models were the guitarists T-Bone Walker and Clarence Gatemouth Brown. At the age of 17 he became a member of the band of Zydeco musician Clifton Chenier , with whom he went on tour for two years. He then played with Memphis R&B singer Rosco Gordon and Texas guitarist Long John Hunter . After moving to California in 1959, he recorded some singles such as Hello My Darling for the Elko label by JR Fulbright and then worked with producer Bruce Bromberg and songwriter Dennis Walker; together in the 1960s the guitarist made records for the labels Vault, Fantasy , Joliet and Playboy. After making records for Rounder Records , Walker moved to Bromberg's Hightone label and the New Orleans label Black Top Records. During the 1990s he recorded for Chicago's Alligator Records , his best known track being " Lone Star Shootout " with musicians Long John Hunter and Lonnie Brooks in 1999. His last album was released in 2007 on Delta Groove ( Going Back Home ).
