Black Top Records was an independent American record label, founded in 1981, from New Orleans in the state of Louisiana . The founders were the brothers Nauman and Hammond Scott.

history

The label originally began releasing blues albums but soon expanded its releases with New Orleans R&B and American roots music. A great achievement of the company was the discovery of unknown musical talents such as B. WC Clark . Although the basis of their catalog was the release of new recordings, there have also been some re-releases, such as B. Earl Hooker and Hollywood Fats .

Her catalog was initially distributed by Rounder Records , after the end of the contract in the mid-1990s, Alligator Records took over the distribution. After releasing around 100 titles, the label went bankrupt in 1999. Hammond Scott died in 2002 and his brother sold the rights to the catalog, some titles were sold by labels such as Varese Sarabande, Fuel 2000 and Shout! Factory released. In 2006, P-Vine Records from Japan acquired the worldwide rights and released some titles.
