Robert Ward (blues musician)

Robert Jeryl Ward (born October 15, 1938 in Luthersville , Georgia , † December 25, 2008 in Dry Branch , Georgia) was an American blues singer and guitarist . He was the front man for the band Ohio Players from 1959 to 1965 .

Life

Ward moved with his parents to Dayton , Ohio in 1960 , where he founded the Ohio Players with Marshal Jones ( bass ), Clarence Satchell ( saxophone , guitar), Cornelius Johnson ( drums ) and Ralph Middlebrooks ( trumpet , trombone ) . Ward wrote many songs for the band , including Your Love is amazing . In 1965 he left the group to start a solo career. He later moved to the Detroit area, residing in Toledo , Ohio, and released a few singles in his name from the 1960s. In the 1970s he worked as a session musician for Motown .

He came back into the spotlight in the early 1990s. Spotted by Black Top Records, he released Fear no evil , his first full-length album.

Robert Ward died on December 25, 2008 at the age of 70.
