Joe Guitar Hughes
Joe "Guitar" Hughes (born September 29, 1937 in Houston , Texas , † May 20, 2003 ibid) was an American blues guitarist. His role models include Johnny "Guitar" Watson , also from Houston, and Johnny Copeland , with whom he played in a band called "Dukes of Rhythm" in the mid-1950s.
From 1958 to 1963 Hughes led the house band of a Juke Joint . He also took on a few singles. In 1963 he became a member of the Upsetters known as Little Richard's Band . In 1965 he joined Bobby "Blue" Bland , then Al "TNT" Braggs.
After a long dry spell, Hughes brought out a number of successful albums from the second half of the 1980s. Joe "Guitar" Hughes died on May 20, 2003 after a heart attack.
