Ana Popović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Ана Поповић * 13. May 1976 in Belgrade , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian Blues - guitarist and - singer .
biography
Ana Popović grew up in a family where music was very important. Her father played guitar and bass and often invited friends over for jam sessions . Ana also regularly listened to his soul and blues records. When she was 15 she started playing the guitar. As Ana's progress soon exceeded her father's knowledge, the family made private guitar lessons possible.
In 1999 Ana Popović founded her first band "Hush". Since then she has appeared regularly at all major European blues festivals. In the same year she signed a contract with the German label Ruf Records. Her final breakthrough came in 2001 with the album Hush , which received positive media coverage. In 2003 she was nominated for the WC Handy Award as best new artist. In 2006 she received an invitation to the "Legendary Blues Cruise". She was the first European artist to be invited. She has since shared the stage with numerous blues musicians - in particular the guitarist Sue Foley and the singer Candye Kane , with whom she regularly performed - as well as more established, cross-blues artists such as Solomon Burke , Walter Trout and Udo Lindenberg .
In 2007, Popović starred at the Sundance Film Festival before the screening of the film What Love Is .
