Jimmie Lawrence Vaughan (* 20th March 1951 in Dallas ) is a blues rock - guitarist and singer who primarily as a founding member of the Fabulous Thunderbirds and his work with his younger brother Stevie Ray Vaughan has become known as "Vaughan Brothers".

Career

Vaughan started playing guitar at an early age. As a teenager he played with various garage rock bands, which were unsuccessful. At the age of 19 he left his hometown and moved to Austin , where he played in several blues bands. In 1972 he founded The Storm , his first band.

In 1974 he met Kim Wilson , with whom he soon founded the Fabulous Thunderbirds . It wasn't until 1986, three years after the national success of Vaughan's little brother, that the T-Birds made their breakthrough with an album. After another three years, Vaughan left the Fabulous Thunderbirds because he no longer liked the band's now quite commercial style. He then teamed up with his brother Stevie Ray Vaughan . The Vaughan Brothers' only album, Family Style , was released in early 1990 and received the 1991 Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album.

In August 1990, his brother Stevie Ray died in a helicopter accident. Jimmie Vaughan initially withdrew from the music scene until he released his solo debut Strange Pleasures in 1994 . This was followed by Out There (1998) and Do You Get the Blues? (2001).

In 1989, Jimmie Vaughan played the guitarist in Jerry Lee Lewis' band in the movie Great Balls of Fire . In 1998 he had an appearance in the film Blues Brothers 2000 , where he appeared in the group The Louisiana Gator Boys , which had been formed specifically for the film.

In 1997 Fender dedicated his own Stratocaster model to him.
