Linda Hopkins
Linda Hopkins (* 14. December 1924 in New Orleans , Louisiana ; † 10. April 2017 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) was an American blues - and Gospel - singer .
Life
Linda Hopkins was discovered by Mahalia Jackson when she was eleven . She was the star of many musical reviews; in the 1990s she toured with Maxine Weldon on the show Wild Women Blues .
Stage appearances
- Me and Bessie , the revue she wrote as a one-woman show , traces the life and work of the great blues singer Bessie Smith . The revue celebrated its world premiere in Los Angeles in 1974 .
- Black and Blue by Claudio Segovia and Hector Orezzoli , premiered in Paris in 1985.
- Wild Women Blues by Mel Howard , premiered in 1997 in Berlin.
