Angela Strehli (born November 22, 1945 in Lubbock , Texas ) is an American blues singer , songwriter and blues history researcher.

Life

Angela Strehli's father was a college professor. Angela Strehli began playing bass and harmonica in the early 1960s , but soon turned to singing. In 1966 she visited Chicago as a representative of the YWCA and heard concerts by Howlin 'Wolf , Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy . In her final year at the University of Texas, which she graduated with degrees in psychology and sociology, she founded "The Fabulous Rockets" with Lewis Cowdrey. In 1972 she was a founding member of "Southern Feeling", together with WC Clark and Denny Freeman. In 1975 she became the stage manager and sound engineer for Antone's, a nightclub in Austin, Texas. There she discovered and promoted the young blues musician Stevie Ray Vaughan . Her idea of ​​including blues musicians when they performed, especially when they no longer had a record company, gave birth to the live music series "Antone's Records and Tapes".

Strehli has worked with Andy Santana, Elvin Bishop and Pinetop Perkins , among others , and has performed at festivals such as the Notodden Blues Festival, Long Beach Blues Festival , Edmonton's Labatt Blues Festival and the San Francisco Blues Festival . Strehli now lives in San Francisco . Her brother Al wrote chorals at an early age and is an important player in Spanish guitar music.
