Brian Charles Lara AM , TC (nickname: " The Prince of Port-of-Spain" ) (born May 2, 1969 in Santa Cruz , Trinidad and Tobago ) is a retired cricketer who played in Test Cricket and One-Day International Cricket Matches (ODI) played for the West Indies team. He is considered one of the most successful batsmen in the history of cricket.

Records

During his career, Lara twice improved the world record for most points (runs) in a test match innings . He set his first record in the West Indies test against England in 1994, scoring 375 runs. He set his second record in Antigua in 2004 , again in a test against England. He scored 400 runs 'not out' and broke the record held by the Australian Matthew Hayden . Lara is so far the only player who has managed to regain the record for the most runs scored in test cricket.

Career

Lara played a total of 131 tests during his career, in which he scored 11,953 runs (an average of 52.89 runs per elimination). The Indians Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid and the Australian Ricky Ponting are the only players to date who have achieved more runs overall in test matches. Brian Lara also scored 34 Centuries (100 or more runs) in test innings. Only Sachin Tendulkar (51), Ricky Ponting (39) and Rahul Dravid (36) outbid this mark more often. He made his test debut on December 6, 1990 against Pakistan. His last test was against Pakistan on November 27, 2006. Lara also played 299 one-day international matches, in which he scored 10,405 runs (an average of 40.49 runs). Lara played his first ODI match on November 9, 1990 against Pakistan. He played his last ODI on April 21, 2007 against England as part of the World Cricket Championship . Brian Lara also took part in five cricket world championships ( 1992 , 1996 , 1999 , 2003 , 2007) with the West Indies team. At club level Brian Lara played in England from 1994 to 1998 for the Warwickshire County Cricket Club, for which he scored 501 runs 'not out' in a championship match against Durham in 1994. He holds both the record for the most runs scored in a test match and the record for the most runs scored in a first-class cricket match.

Honors

In 1994 Lara was awarded the Trinity Cross . On September 14, 2012, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame . In 2017, the Brian Lara Cricket Academy was opened in San Fernando, Trinidad .
