Bermuda national cricket team

The Bermuda National Cricket Team is the national cricket team that represents Bermuda internationally. It is an associate member of the International Cricket Council .

Beginnings of cricket in Bermuda

The first known cricket game in Bermuda was recorded on August 30, 1844, and the Bermuda Cricket Club was established a year later. Until the Second World War, only a few international games took place on the island. In 1948 the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control was established as an umbrella organization and more international games were played, often as tour games of the test nations on tours of the West Indies .

Bermuda as an ICC member

In 1966 Bermuda became an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Bermuda has been participating in the qualification for the Cricket World Cup since 1979, but was only able to qualify for one at the ICC Trophy 2005 . However, all three preliminary round matches were lost at the 2007 final and the team was eliminated from this early. Since then, the team has not been able to qualify for one of the major tournaments. The team initially achieved greater success at the ICC Intercontinental Cup , where it made it to the semi-finals in 2005. In recent years, the team has also lost touch here and has not been able to qualify for this tournament since 2011.

Others

Dwayne Leverock's catch caused a sensation at the 2007 Cricket World Cup in the group game against India . He was one of the heaviest cricketers at the tournament at 127 kg and caught the ball in a spectacular jump.
