Hong Kong national cricket team

The Hong Kong national cricket team represents Hong Kong in international cricket matches . You have been an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council since 1969 .

history

First structures

The first recorded game of cricket brought to Hong Kong by the British took place in 1841. By the end of the century, several cricket clubs were established, the first being the Hong Kong Cricket Club in 1851. From the 1903/04 season there was the first division in Hong Kong. The Marylebone Cricket Club first visited the country in 1966 before Hong Kong became an associate member of the International Cricket Council in 1969 .

Start of international cricket

Internationally, the country first appeared at the 1982 ICC Trophy , which served as a qualification for the 1983 Cricket World Cup . There Hong Kong was eliminated in the preliminary round. The same happened with the 1986 and 1990 editions . At the ICC Trophy 1994 succeeded for the first time to survive the group stage, but failed in the following intermediate round. This was repeated in 1997 before failing again in the preliminary round in 2001 . In 2004 Hong Kong qualified for the Asia Cup , but, like four years later , retired in the preliminary round. In first-class cricket , the team failed in the preliminary round of the 2005 Intercontinental Cup . In the ICC World Cricket League 2007-09 , the team was only moderately successful, a relegation 2007 from Division 3 followed a rise in 2008 .

Establishment and first successes

After a phase without significant appearances at international tournaments, the team managed to qualify again for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2014 in the ICC World Cricket League 2009-14 . There they managed to survive the group stage, but failed to qualify for the World Cup as third in the Super Six round. However, the team then received ODI status . Also in 2012 managed to qualify for the first time for the Twenty20 World Championship . There you failed in the preliminary round. The following year the team was more successful and qualified for a world championship for the first time. At the ICC World Twenty20 2014 , however, they were eliminated from the bottom of the preliminary round, but were able to defeat the test nation Bangladesh in the last group game . At the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier 2015 , the qualification succeeded again, the qualification for the World Twenty20 , but this time they were eliminated again in the preliminary round. The ODI status entitled to participate in the ICC Intercontinental Cup 2015-2017 in which the team was fourth. Third place was achieved in the parallel ODI competition, the ICC World Cricket League Championship 2015–17 . At the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 , which then took place , however, you could only beat Afghanistan and were eliminated in the preliminary round. From 2019 the team will take part in the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League 2019-2021 .
