ICC Intercontinental Cup

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ICC Intercontinental Cup is an international cricket tournament. It was set up by the International Cricket Council in order to give the countries immediately below the so-called test cricket nations the opportunity to regularly play first-class games and gradually bring them up to this level.

First-class cricket is usually only reserved for teams in the full member nations , the 5-day international matches between these countries are called test matches . The games for the ICC Intercontinental Cup therefore have “only” first-class status.

In the first year of 2004 the games lasted three days and since 2006 four days, as is usually the case nowadays in the national first-class competitions of the test nations. In the first two years points were awarded for runs and wickets , in 2006 the final result and any leads or arrears after the first innings are decisive.
