Faisalabad ( Urdu فیصل آباد), until 1977 Lyallpur , is the third largest city in Pakistan . Their population is 3.2 million (2017). The city, which lies west of Lahore in the Punjab Province , is an important industrial center and a transportation hub. Mainly one comes across textile factories. history

Faisalabad was founded by the British in 1880. The city was originally called Lyallpur, after the name of its founder, Sir Charles James Lyall . Before the British founded a city at this point, the region was a collection of several villages. As a result, several canals were built to irrigate the area. People from other parts of the country were brought into the city with promises of land. Faisalabad quickly grew into a large city in this way.

On September 1, 1977, the city was renamed Faisalabad ('Residence of Faisal') in honor of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia , who was murdered . King Faisal had no relationship with the city during his lifetime.

Geographical location

Faisalabad's climate is very hot in summer, whereas in winter the temperature can drop below zero. Faisalabad is the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Faisalabad . Not far east of Faisalabad is the city of Nankana Sahib , an important pilgrimage site of the Sihks .
