Rahat Fateh Ali Khan
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan (* 1974 in Faisalabad ; Urdu راحت فتح علی خان) is a Pakistani musician .
He works mainly as a qawwali singer (a type of music from the Sufi tradition in Islam ) and is the nephew of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan . In addition to his Qawwalis , he also sings Ghazals . He toured Pakistan and India , but more recently Europe and the United States .
Youth and training
Rahat was born in 1974 in Faisalabad, Punjab , into a traditional musical family. His father was Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, also a qawwali singer. Rahat's teacher was his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and he learned from him the art of Qawwali classical music from the age of 7.
Career
Rahat made his first public appearance when he was eleven when he went on tour to Great Britain with his uncle Nusrat. He appeared as a solo singer, but also together with a Qawwali group. On July 27, 1985 he sang his solo Ghazal Mukh Tera soneya Sharab Nalon Changa Ae in Birmingham . In the same year he also sang his Ghazal Gin Gin Taare Lang Galiyan Rattaan in a concert at the Harrow Leisure Center. His recent works include Pakistani national songs such as Dharti Dharti and Hum Pakistan, as well as numerous Bollywood songs. Since then he has performed in Pakistan, India, the UK and other countries around the world. In April 2012, his performance in London's Wembley Arena was attended by over 20,000 spectators.
In 2004 Rahat's first song appeared in a Bollywood film. With the film Paap he made his debut as a Bollywood - playback singer. Rahat became popular in South Asia through more Bollywood film songs. In 2010 he won 'Best International Act' at the UK Asian Music Awards .
Personal
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is married to Nida Fateh Ali Khan. The two have a son, Shaadman, who was born in 2007 and, despite his young age, has already performed with Rahat, around October 2012 in Birmingham .
