Dennis Thering (born April 5, 1984 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and since March 18, 2020 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Hamburg parliament as well as opposition leader .

Life

Education, political and professional activity

Dennis Thering did his Abitur at the City Nord Business School . He then did community service in the Hospital of the Holy Spirit in Poppenbüttel . He then completed his training as a banker at Hamburger Sparkasse . From 2006 to 2010 he was an employee of the Hamburger Sparkasse. In 2013 he completed his studies in political science at the University of Hamburg with a Bachelor of Arts degree .

Thering is married and father of a daughter.

In addition to his mandate as a member of the Hamburg Parliament , he has been a commercial clerk at Pflegen & Wohnen Hamburg GmbH since January 2014 .

He has been a member of the CDU since 2001 , chairman of the CDU in Alstertal and since May 2018 district chairman of the CDU Wandsbek. Between 2004 and 2008 he was a member of the Alstertal local committee and has been deputy parliamentary group chairman since 2005 . From 2008 to 2011 he was directly elected member of the Alstertal-Walddörfer constituency for the Wandsbek district assembly . During this time he was the specialist spokesman for the Alstertal regional area and specialist spokesman for the sports department in the CDU parliamentary group of the Wandsbek district assembly. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Hamburg Parliament and a member of the state board of the CDU Hamburg . He is a member of the committees: Health / Consumer Protection, Home Affairs, Sport, Committee for Cooperation between the States of Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein and Transport. He is the spokesman for the transport, consumer protection and animal welfare departments.

In the 2015 mayor elections , Thering rejoined the citizenry through a direct mandate in the Alstertal-Walddörfer constituency and was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group until March 18, 2020.

In the state election on February 23, 2020, Thering ran again as the top candidate of the CDU Hamburg in the Alstertal-Walddörfer constituency. On February 23, 2020, he again succeeded in entering the Hamburg Parliament . The CDU parliamentary group elected him unanimously as their new chairman at their constituent parliamentary group meeting on March 18, 2020 as the successor to André Trepoll .
