Alstertal
Until 2007, Alstertal was the name of a local authority area in the Hamburg district of Wandsbek with the districts of Hummelsbüttel , Poppenbüttel , Sasel and Wellingsbüttel , which are located on the Alster. About 70,000 people live here.

Geographically, the under sufficient conservation standing Valley of the Alster in the north far beyond the borders of Hamburg. The Alster rises about 25 kilometers north of Hamburg in Henstedt-Ulzburg in the district of Rhen in Schleswig-Holstein . Several protected animal and plant species live in the nature reserves around the headwaters in northern and eastern Hamburg, including rare orchids and mushrooms .
The well-signposted Alster hiking trail stretches along the river from Kayhude in Schleswig-Holstein to Hamburg's Inner Alster . The small tributaries to the Alster in the northeast of Hamburg (so in the Wohldorfer Wald , in the Rodenbeker Quellental and in the Duvenstedter Brook ) are small brooks, so-called Beke .
History and administration
The four villages had belonged to the Duchy of Holstein since the 17th century . In 1912 the Hamburg real estate agent Johann Vincent Wentzel (1865–1919) founded the Alstertal Development Company (ATAG) . The Hamburg-Altona connecting line was extended from Ohlsdorf to Poppenbüttel and opened as the Alstertalbahn in 1918 .
With the Greater Hamburg Law of 1937, the localities fell to Hamburg and became part of the Wandsbek district after the Second World War .
Today the Alstertal regional committee is a sub-committee of the Wandsbek district assembly . It deals with matters that affect the districts of Hummelsbüttel, Poppenbüttel, Sasel and Wellingsbüttel. The 23 members, 15 of whom have voting rights (as of 2019), are appointed by the district assembly according to their political strengths. In addition to the regional committee, there is a construction committee, which is also set up by the district assembly. The meetings of the two committees are public and take place in the Alstertal service building (Wentzelplatz 7).
Trivia
Some outdoor scenes from the children's television series Die Kinder vom Alstertal (1998 to 2004) were shot in the Alstertal. The two manors used are, however, far away in the suburbs of Soltau .
