Ines Claus (* 28 July 1977 in Bochum ) is a German lawyer , Ministerialbeamtin and politician of the CDU . She has been the CDU parliamentary group leader in the Hessian state parliament since April 3, 2020 .

Life

Claus studied law and political science at the University of Frankfurt am Main from 1997 to 2003 . During her studies, which she completed with the first state examination in 2003 , she worked as an employee at the law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Frankfurt am Main. She completed her legal preparatory service at the Darmstadt Regional Court and at the European Parliament . In 2005 she passed the second state examination. From 2005 to 2006 she worked as a research assistant at the CDU Main-Taunus and at the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History . After her admission as a lawyer , she worked from 2006 to 2009 as a personal advisor in the office of the President of the State Parliament Norbert Kartmann and as deputy press spokeswoman for the Hessian State Parliament. This was followed by taking parental leave. From April 2010 to 2018, with an interruption due to further parental leave from December 2014 to March 2016, Claus was Head of the Department for Europe, International Relations of the Hessian State Parliament. From 2014 she was again the office manager of the state parliament president.

Claus joined the CDU in 1998. She has been deputy district chairwoman of the CDU Groß-Gerau since 2010 and deputy chairwoman of the CDU district in South Hesse since 2012. From 2001 to 2018 she was a member of the municipal council in Bischofsheim and there from 2017 to 2018 deputy parliamentary group leader.

In the state elections in 2018 , she ran as a direct candidate of the CDU in constituency 48 (Groß-Gerau II) and moved into the Hessian state parliament as a directly elected member . On April 3, 2020, Claus was elected parliamentary group leader of the Hessian CDU parliamentary group after her predecessor Michael Boddenberg had been sworn in as Hessian finance minister. This position in the Bouffier III cabinet had to be filled again after the death of the previous finance minister Thomas Schäfer .

Ines Claus is married and has three children.
