Georg Stieler (politician)

Georg Stieler (born October 22, 1886 in Setzelbach ; † May 15, 1955 in Fulda ) was a German politician ( center , later CDU ).

Life

After attending school, Stieler completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer and also took a political science course at the Volksverein for Catholic Germany in Munich-Gladbach . From 1910 he was its secretary and secretary at the Catholic workers' associations . In addition, Stieler was secretary of the Catholic workers 'associations and board member of the diocesan association of Catholic workers' associations in the diocese of Münster. From 1914 to 1916 he took part in the First World War. Since November 22, 1918, Stieler was a member of the demobilization committee of the Recklinghausen district and from 1918 to 1919 he was chairman of the workers 'and soldiers' council in Gladbeck. He was police chief in Gelsenkirchen from 1921 to 1923 before he was expelled by the French occupation authorities. From 1925 to 1928 he was again police chief in Gelsenkirchen, from 1928 to 1933 then police chief in Aachen .

During the time of the Weimar Republic , Stieler joined the center and was elected to the party's Prussian state executive. He was a member of the Prussian state parliament from 1919 to 1932 . Stieler served as regional president of Aachen from 1928 to 1933 . After the National Socialists came to power, he was dismissed from civil service. From 1934 to 1945 he was employed in industry. After the Second World War he joined the CDU. From 1946 to 1950 he was a member of the constitutional state assembly of the state of Hesse and the Hessian state parliament and there from October 11, 1949 to December 1, 1950 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group. From 1945 to 1953 he was the district administrator for the Fulda district .

Honors

Georg Stieler Medal

In memory of Georg Stieler, the only and therefore the highest honor awarded by the district of Fulda was named after him. The award was founded in 1972. It is awarded to local politicians who have been active in the district council or district committee for at least twenty years .

At the awarding of the medal in 2016, the chairman of the district council of Stieler spoke as a person who “had become the voice of the Christian workforce before being removed from work by the National Socialists. His politically impeccable reputation qualified him as a member of the constituent assembly for Hesse and as the first district administrator of Fulda after 1945. "
