Birgit Kömpel (born December 19, 1967 in Fulda ) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party of Germany .

Life and work

After completing school, Kömpel initially worked as an office trainee for a prefabricated house manufacturer and later in the hotel industry. She worked in England for a few years. After further training in human resources and several management positions in the international hotel industry, she founded a personnel consultancy with which she placed executives in the international hotel industry. Since April 2018, Kömpel has been working as Senior Recruiting Manager for the recruitment of specialists and managers at Deutsche Bahn AG.

Kömpel is married and has two children.

MPs

After the 2013 federal election , she moved into the Bundestag at number 14 on the list for the Hessian Social Democrats . She was a member of the Bundestag's standing committees for families, senior citizens, women and youth as well as for transport and digital infrastructure .

In 2015 she ran for direct election as mayor of the city of Fulda. With 22.7% of the vote, she was second behind Heiko Wingenfeld (CDU), who achieved 66.6%.

In the 2017 federal election, despite being number 10 on the list for the Hessian Social Democrats, she did not succeed in re-entering the Bundestag.
