Otto von Hoffmann (administrative lawyer)
Franz Otto Theodor Hoffmann , von Hoffmann since 1883 (born September 21, 1833 in Wriezen , † September 21, 1905 in Berlin ) was a German administrative lawyer .
Life
Hoffmann studied law and entered the judiciary as an ausculator in the district of the Stettin Court of Appeal in 1854 . He began his career in the Prussian administration in 1856 as a government referendar in Stettin . From 1859 he worked as a government assistant and unskilled worker in the Ministry of Finance, in 1868 as a government councilor, in 1869 as a secret finance council, and in 1872 as a secret upper finance council. In the German War he fought as a prime lieutenant in the Landwehr and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords.
On August 4, 1876, he was the President of the Government in Danzig , 1878 as a government minister in Aachen used. He was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility by a royal diploma on July 30, 1883 . Finally, in 1892 he was appointed President of the Prussian Central Administration of Public Debt (as the successor to Friedrich Hermann Sydow, with the title Real Privy Councilor and with the title of Excellence) and from 1900 of the Reich Debt Administration . He exercised this function until his death.
Hoffmann died in Berlin on his 72nd birthday in 1905 and was buried in the Old St. Matthew Cemetery in Schöneberg . In the course of the leveling of the cemetery carried out by the National Socialists in 1938/1939, Hoffmann's remains were reburied in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf near Berlin.
Hoffmann was married to Johanna Schütte (* 1853) from 1873; The marriage resulted in eight children, including Captain Otto von Hoffmann (1880–1958).
