The administrative district of Danzig was an administrative district of the Prussian province of West Prussia from 1815 to 1919 . Most of its territory now belongs to the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship .

    history

The administrative district of Danzig was established in 1815 in the province of West Prussia of the Kingdom of Prussia . It comprised the northern part of the province on both sides of the mouth of the Vistula and had an area of 7,735 km² when it was founded. The seat of the government president was in Gdansk . From 1829 to 1878 West Prussia was united with the Province of East Prussia to form a Province of Prussia , which had belonged to the German Empire since 1871 . After the end of the First World War , the Gdansk administrative district and its district structures were dissolved.

Due to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , part of the Gdansk administrative district had to be ceded to Poland for the purpose of establishing the Polish Corridor .

The League of Nations mandate, Free City of Danzig, was formed from another part , and part of the government district remained with the German Empire .
