Heinz Schoch

Heinz Schöch (born August 20, 1940 in Sarata , Bessarabia ) is a German legal scholar and criminologist . He is a professor emeritus for criminal law , criminology , youth law and the prison system at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

biography

Schöch was born in Bessarabia, which had recently been under military occupation by the Soviet Union . He has lived in Germany since 1945. After graduating from high school in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt in 1959, he studied general at the Leibniz College in Tübingen and studied law in Tübingen and Hamburg. From 1965 to 1974 he worked as a research assistant, assistant and academic adviser at the Institute for Criminology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . From 1974 to 1994 he was full professor for criminal law and criminology at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , and there also temporarily judge at the regional court in the 2nd main office. He declined appointments to the Universities of Bielefeld in 1977 and Zurich in 1981. From 1994 to 2008 he was the successor of Horst Schüler-Springorum as a full professor for criminal law, criminology, youth law and the penal system at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He retired on October 1st, 2008.

From 2008 to 2016 he was chairman of the advisory board of the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law in Freiburg i. Br. Since 1994 he has been a board member of the White Ring Association for Victims Aid . V. as well as chairman of the Advisory Council on Criminal Law and since 1979 he has been a founding member of the Criminological Research Institute of Lower Saxony . From 1994 to 2006 Schöch was a member of the permanent deputation of the German Lawyers' Association and from 2001 to 2003 President of the Criminological Society . He has been a member of the working group of German, Austrian and Swiss criminal law professors since 1980. In 1995 he became an honorary member of the Japanese criminal law society. From 2011 to 2015 he was a member of the Evaluation Commission for Freiburg Sports Medicine.

Schöch is married and has three children.

His areas of work are criminal policy, criminal law sanctions, empirical research on sanctions and criminal proceedings, the execution of sentences and measures, juvenile criminal law, reparation and mediation in criminal law, victimology, rights of injured persons and witnesses, road traffic delinquency, medical criminal law, border issues to forensic psychiatry.
