Bernd-Dieter Meier

Bernd-Dieter Meier (born October 3, 1955 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German lawyer and criminologist . He teaches as a university professor at the Law Faculty of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover .

biography

After graduation (1974) which followed studies of law at the Georg-August University of Göttingen ; first state examination 1979, and second state examination 1985. From 1979 to 1982 and from 1985 to 1992 research assistant with Heinz Schöch , university assistant and university lecturer at the law faculty of the University of Göttingen . 1981 Meier did a research stay at the University of California , Los Angeles. There he completed his doctorate in 1983 with an empirical-criminological thesis on the determination of sentences for recidivists in Germany and the USA. In 1991 he completed his habilitation with an empirical thesis on the cost burden in criminal proceedings as well as obtaining the venia legendi for criminal law, criminal procedural law and criminology.

In the summer semester of 1992 Meier was a substitute for the professorship for criminal law with juvenile criminal law and criminology at the University of Potsdam . Since the winter semester 1992/93 he has been Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law and Criminology in the Law Faculty of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover . From 1998 to 2000 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law and from 2002 to 2004 Dean of Studies.

Meier carried out a study on the distribution channels of child pornography on the Internet for the White IT initiative . The preliminary results of this study were presented at a symposium on November 24th and 25th, 2010 in Hanover, the final study on May 3rd, 2011 at the federal press conference in Berlin.
