Torsten Verrel (* 1961 in Lübbecke / Westphalia ) is a German legal scholar and criminologist . He teaches as a professor at the University of Bonn .

Life

Verrel studied law at the University of Marburg and the University of Göttingen from 1982 to 1987 and passed both state exams. He received his doctorate in 1994 with an empirical study on the assessment of culpability in homicides .

From 1995 to 2003 Verrel was Assistant Professor at the University of Munich and habilitated there in 2001. His habilitation self-incrimination in criminal proceedings - A contribution to the contouring of a overextended procedural principle has been awarded the Habilitation Award of the Munich Ludwig-Maximilians-University of 2002.

After substituting professorships at Bielefeld University and Bonn University, Verrel became professor and director of the criminological seminar at Bonn University in 2003.

In his publications, Verrel focuses on the legal aspects of euthanasia and terminal care as well as on the subject of juvenile delinquency .

As an expert at the Juristentag 2006 , Verrel spoke out in favor of clearer and more unambiguous regulations on the subject of euthanasia.
