Erich Großkopf (born December 1, 1903 in Siegen , † July 31, 1977 in Herborn ) was a German economist and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

The son of the chemist Hermann Großkopf attended the municipal boys' school for three years and then switched to the secondary school in Siegen, where he graduated from high school in 1922. He then took up studies in political science , law and philosophy at the universities of Tübingen , Bonn and Gießen , which he completed in 1925 with the examination for a degree in economics. In 1926 he was awarded the title The Law of Comparative Costs in the Development of the Theory of Foreign Trade for Dr. rer. pole. PhD . During his studies he joined the Rheno-Germania Bonn fraternity in the Schwarzburgbund .

Großkopf initially worked as an employee in industry and from 1928 to 1935 worked as a tax advisor and in-house counsel for associations of medium-sized companies. In 1936 he settled in Herborn as a freelance tax advisor and auditor. In 1945 he was sworn in as an auditor. He acted on a voluntary basis as Vice President of the Dillenburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

Political career

Großkopf was a city ​​councilor in Herborn from 1929 to 1934 .

After the Second World War he was one of the founding members of the CDU Hessen . From 1949 to 1971 he was chairman of the CDU district association in Dillenburg. From 1946 until his death he was again a member of the Herborn city ​​council . He was also a member of the district council of the Dillkreis .

In 1946, Großkopf was a member of the state assembly of Greater Hesse that advised the constitution and was elected to the first Hessian state parliament that same year . From 1949 to 1952 and from 1966 to 1970 he was deputy chairman and from 1952 to 1966 chairman of the CDU parliamentary group . From 1966 to 1970 he also served as Vice President of the State Parliament. In 1970 he left the state parliament. The Hessian Landtag elected Großkopf to the Federal Assembly for the election of the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1949, 1954 and 1969 .

Großkopf was awarded the Freiherr vom Stein plaque in 1963 and the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal of the State of Hesse in 1968 . In 1963 he received the Grand Cross of Merit with Star of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from the Federal President . The city of Herborn honored his services in 1963 with the award of the title of city ​​elder and in 1973 with the award of honorary citizenship.
