Business high school

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A business high school (also: Fachgymnasium Wirtschaft / Fachgymnasium für Wirtschaft & Verwaltung, Berufliches Gymnasium Wirtschaft, Wirtschaftswwissenschaftliches Gymnasium) is a secondary grammar school in Germany that often only has an upper level .

organization

The business school is organized differently in each federal state . Therefore, there is no precise general description. In addition to general subjects, the main subjects are business administration (including accounting, controlling) and economics , both of which are taught either as individual subjects or in a combined form in one subject. An economic aspect can also be used in other subjects, for example mathematics .

Graduates are awarded the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur, highest German school qualification) or, if a second foreign language has not been taken, the subject- specific higher education entrance qualification in some federal states . Graduates - depending on the state - the 11th or 12th grade, under certain conditions, the technical college will be awarded the college entrance or the school-based part.

Admission requirements

Anyone who has completed the secondary school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife) with the authorization to attend the gymnasiale Oberstufe (“Q-Vermerk”) can be admitted to the commercial high school. In Lower Saxony, the extended secondary qualification I is an entry requirement for the vocational high school. For students of the 8-year high school, the admission requirement is the entitlement to attend the gymnasiale Oberstufe at the end of grade 9.

Pupils who have completed the two-year commercial college and have acquired the school-based part of the technical college entrance qualification can be admitted to grade 12 of the commercial high school and then attain the Abitur in two years. You must then prove that you have taught Spanish as a second foreign language from the higher commercial school.

Degrees and Permissions

  1. General higher education entrance qualification: Those who only want to achieve the Abitur must take the Abitur examination at the end of grade 13. In addition to the advanced course in business administration, English, mathematics or German can be chosen as a further advanced course.
  2. School-related part of the technical college entrance qualification: Those who leave the commercial high school after the 11th or 12th grade can receive the school-related part of the technical college entrance qualification without further examination.
  3. Middle school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife): G8 pupils acquire the middle school leaving certificate when they are promoted to grade 12 of the vocational high school

Vocational high school economics in Lower Saxony

All successful graduates of a vocational high school in Lower Saxony can study any subject at any university in Germany. This is how the vocational high school economy differs z. B. from the vocational high school, which usually only awards subject-related degrees.

structure

The vocational high school in Lower Saxony is divided into a one-year introductory phase (level 11) and a two-year qualification phase (level 12/13). The introductory phase can be entered by anyone who has received the extended secondary qualification or the promotion to the upper level of a grammar school. Anyone who has not attended lessons in a second compulsory foreign language by the end of the course for four school years must compulsorily (in addition to English in the 11th level) study a new language by the end of their Abitur. From level 12, English can then be deselected. Knowledge deficits are compensated in the introductory phase; the lessons take place mainly in class.

subjects

The profile subjects of the Lower Saxony vocational high school are business administration with accounting / controlling (BRC), economics (VW) and information processing (IV). An additional profile subject is company practice (until 2009: specialist practice ), which is linked to the BRC subject. Other subjects are mathematics, German, English , other foreign languages (often Spanish ), natural sciences (either biology or physics or chemistry ), politics (one semester in level 11), religion / values and norms (level 11 and two semesters in 12 or 13 ) and history (one semester in level 11 and two semesters in 12 or 13). If the school offers religion or history as an examination subject, the Abitur examination can also be taken in this subject in the fourth or fifth examination subject (applies to all students at a vocational high school who enter the introductory phase on August 1, 2010).

Regulations and tests

In the introductory phase, performance is assessed according to the grading system 1-6. The 15-point system is used in the qualification phase .

At the end of level 11, five examination subjects are chosen for level 12/13. The first mandatory examination subject (P1) is BRC. For the second and third examination subjects (P2 and P3), two of the subjects mathematics, German or English must be chosen. These first three test subjects are then at an elevated level informed (four periods), which corresponds to the level of the former power rates corresponds. The fourth and fifth examination subject (P4 and P5) can either be that which was not chosen for P2 / 3, as well as another foreign language, science, IV or VW - one of these two subjects must be chosen. P1-4 are examined in writing, P5 orally. The last two examination subjects and all remaining subjects are taught at the basic level (two, three or four hours; this corresponds to the level of the former basic courses ). Only examination subjects may be chosen that are taken for the entire qualification phase (natural science at least four hours).

In most schools in Lower Saxony , the qualification phase of the vocational high school is practically organized in a course system. In level 12.2, a project is carried out in the BRC subject and in a further subject such as information processing or the BRC-linked subject Practice. In this project, the pupils get to know basic methods of project management and apply them in cooperation with a company or similar. In addition, a project work must be written in BRC.

The regulations in the qualification phase are derived from the Lower Saxony Ordinance on Vocational Schools (BBSVo). The implementation of the Abitur examination corresponds to the regulations of the general high schools (AVO-GOBAK). The written exams are carried out as a central high school diploma, with the exception of information processing. Exactly the same high school diploma proposals are submitted in the subject of German as exist for the general high schools. In the subjects of English and mathematics, an economic reference is required in the examinations, which means that the content of these exams differs from that of the general high school. Independent of business administration, the subject of economics only exists at the vocational high school for economics, which is why this examination only applies to students at the vocational high school for economics.

Business high school in Rhineland-Palatinate

In Rhineland-Palatinate , after secondary level I, there is the possibility of switching to the commercial high school. This is possible for a student if he or she has successfully passed the voluntary 10th year at a secondary school, acquired the secondary qualification I at a secondary school or received the transition authorization to class 11 at a grammar school . However, this only applies if the grade point average does not exceed 3.0 (applies to everyone who comes from the Hauptschule and Realschule, the transfer certificate counts for high school students) ( arithmetic mean ). However, due to the high number of enrollments at a business school, this average can be reduced significantly. In addition, in the subjects German , mathematics and English no grade may be below 'sufficient'.

subjects

First, the students are in the one-year introductory phase (grade 11), which is held in class form. In contrast to general high schools, the student here has four major subjects, the most new subject business administration / accounting , which is taught a total of five hours a week, and the subjects German, mathematics and English with four hours a week.

In the commercial high school there is also the opportunity to learn a second foreign language , as this is a prerequisite for the Abitur . This is taught 3 to 4 hours a week and is mostly French and Spanish . In addition, students cannot deselect English after the 11th grade, and students who have already had French in the previous school year cannot withdraw from French lessons. However, this plays a big role in compiling the high school diploma score.

The natural sciences are physics and chemistry in the business high school (recently also biology in some schools ), which are given 2 hours per week in the introductory phase. In the qualification phase, the students choose one of the subjects. In rare cases, however, a student also visits both natural sciences. However, this requires the approval of the school management and the subject teacher. In general, however, information processing is taught, which is viewed as a second natural science.

Phases

The introductory phase is primarily intended to create a general level, since students with different requirements come to the secondary school. Secondly, the students get used to the new subjects of business administration / accounting, economics and information processing (a form of applied computer science ).

At the end of the 11th grade, the students choose their advanced courses for the qualification phase. Unlike in general high schools, the students are brought together in so-called courses in class form, so that the students do not have a 'real' course system. A total of 11 combinations are available. The following advanced courses are available: Business Administration, Economics, German, Mathematics, English and Information Processing. Each advanced course is held for five hours in the qualification phase. In addition, the choice of business administration or economics is mandatory. Often, however, both subjects are chosen as advanced courses.

After the two years of the qualification phase, the students take the Abitur, which is examined in writing in the three advanced courses, and a fourth oral examination subject.
