Sheikhupura or Shaikhupura ( Urdu : شَيخُوپُورہ) is an industrial city with 473,129 inhabitants in the Pakistani province of Punjab ; it is also the administrative seat of the district of the same name . The city was named after Prince Sheikhu , the eldest son and successor of the Mughal ruler Akbar I.

Sheikhupura lies at a height of approx. 210 m above sea level. d. M. about 45 km (driving distance) northwest of Lahore .
climate
Sheikhupura, like almost the entire province of Punjab, has an extreme climate. The summer season starts in April and ends in October. During this time the temperature is 30 to 45 ° C. The rainiest months are July and August. The winter half-year runs from November to March, of which December and January are the coldest months. During these two months the temperature is around 5 ° C.

The city is located in a traditionally agricultural area. Since the 1980s, it has offered continuously improved infrastructure for craft, industry, trade and service companies of all kinds.
history
The fertile region of Punjab has been settled for a long time. The Mughal Emperor Jahangir founded the city in its current location in 1607. In the 18th century it was part of the Sikh rule ; in 1849 she came to British India . When India was partitioned in 1947, it became part of Pakistan along with the larger neighboring city of Lahore.
Attractions
Despite its long history, Sheikhupura has few sights of historical or cultural importance. The only exception is the former Jahangir hunting park, located approx. 4 km northwest of the city, with a multi-storey round observation or hunting tower ( Hiran Minar ) and an artificial lake ( tank ) with a rectangular gate and an octagonal lake pavilion with a chhatri sitting on it .
