Sourav Chandidas Ganguly (born July 8, 1972 in Calcutta ) is a former Indian cricketer .

Career

Sourav Ganguly played 113 Tests for India between June 1996 and November 2008, in which he scored a total of 7212 runs (42.17 runs per wicket). Between 2000 and 2005 he was the captain of the Indian test team in 49 missions. The Indian team won 21 of these 49 tests. No other Indian test captain had more appearances and more wins than Ganguly. Sourav Ganguly also played 311 One-Day International Cricket Matches (ODIs) for India . Here he scored 11,363 runs (41.02 runs per wicket). This made him the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to achieve at least 10,000 runs in ODI matches. Sourav Ganguly also took part in three cricket world championships (1999, 2003 and 2007).
