The County Cricket Ground , usually short- County Ground called, is a Cricket - Stadium in Derby . Also known as the Racecourse Ground , it has been the home of the Derbyshire County Cricket Club since 1871. The stadium opened in 1863 and initially served as a racecourse.
history
The South Derby Cricket Club, which has existed since 1835, moved after a few years of its existence to the Derby Racecourse , which had existed since 1848, to find a new home there. When the Derby County Cricket Club was founded, it took over the playing field. The two ends are called Grandstand End and Scoreboard End.
Soccer
In the early days, the playing area was also used to play football games. The Derby County soccer team played at this stadium between 1884 and 1895 before moving to the baseball ground . In addition, the FA Cup final was held in the County Cricket Ground in 1886, which was the first FA Cup final outside of London . The English national football team played here in 1895 as part of the British Home Championship an international match against the Irish selection.
Cricket
After the Derbyshire CCC regained its first-class status , cricket was played on the playing field at national level. In 1939 the surrounding racecourse was closed and the field moved. The stadium's equipment was generally considered poor, so it did not have its own changing rooms, but the previous quarters of the jockeys were used. A renovation took place in 1982. The following year a preliminary round match of the Cricket World Cup 1983 took place here. At the next staging of the Cricket World Cup in England in 1999 , a preliminary round match was also played here. These are the only one-day internationals that have been held in this stadium to this day. After Derbyshire considered leaving the stadium for financial reasons, it received planning permission in 2014 to modernize the stadium's facilities and integrate a conference and event area. In February it was announced that the stadium would host the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup .
